2024 Children's bookfair of Hyde Park
Join us for the Children’s Book Fair in Hyde Park!
The Children’s Book Fair will take place on Sunday, September 15, 2024, in Hyde Park on the South Side of Chicago.
The Children’s Book Fair of Hyde Park is a celebration of creativity and promotes literacy in Chicago’s youth.
We would like to take this opportunity to recognize all that Dori Jacobsohn contributed to the Children's Book Fair. She designed the Storybook flats we still use every year. She supervised the volunteers who painted flats. She designed costumes and flyers. Her creative vision helped start the fair and inspired its further evolution.
The Children's Book Fair of Hyde Park
The 36th Annual Children's Book Fair of Hyde Park, taking place Sunday, October 1st, 2023. This year's Book Fair theme is Inclusion and will feature a variety of artists and vendors that remind us that diversity is our strength.
In a world that is increasingly riven by division and rancor, we invite everyone to come together, learn from one another, and grow stronger together, united by the universal power of literacy.
Sharing stories important to us means sharing a part of ourselves. Books reach across boundaries and build connections between readers.

The 35th Annual Children's Book Fair of Hyde Park, taking place Sunday September 18th, 2022. This year's Book Fair theme is Banned Books, and will kick off "Banned Book Week". From the American Library Association's website:
"Banned Books Week, typically held during the last week of September, spotlights current and historical attempts to censor books in libraries and schools. It brings together the entire book community — librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types — in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular.
Sharing stories important to us means sharing a part of ourselves. Books reach across boundaries and build connections between readers. Censorship, on the other hand, creates barriers.
The books featured during Banned Books Week have all been targeted for removal or restriction in libraries and schools. By focusing on efforts across the country to remove or restrict access to books, Banned Books Week draws national attention to the harms of censorship."
Banned Book Essay Contest
Do you have a favorite book that’s been banned? Write an essay about it and submit it to us by September 1. We will select some of the best ones and present them and their authors at the Fair.
